• Treatment of iron deficiency anemia:
    • Curative:
      • Adults: PO 100-200mg/day (2-4 ampoules per day)
      • Infants >1 month: PO 5-10mg/kg/day
    • Preventive:
      • Pregnant women: 50mg/day (1 ampoule) during the last 2 quarters of pregnancy (or from the 4th month)
  • Oral ampoule:
    • 5mg/1.33mg/0.7mg per mL
  • The ampoule should be diluted in water that may or may not be sweetened or any other non-alcoholic drink (but not milk).
  • Drinking large quantities of tea reduces iron absorption therefore not mixed with tea.
  • Preferably taken before meals but can be adjusted according to digestive tolerance

Antianemic

  • Black stool
  • Gastric burns
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Anemia not related to iron deficiency

Wait 2 hours between this drug and:

  • Tetracyclines
  • Fluoroquinolones
  • Diphosphonates
  • Penicillamine
  • Thyroxin drugs
  • Antacids
