• Hemodynamic conditions such as hypotension, low cardiac output, poor perfusion of vital organs, etc
  • Adjunct treatment in shock
    • Initially IV 2-5mcg/kg/min then titrate to effect in 5-10mcg/kg/min increments
    • Max: 50mcg/kg/min
  • Post-resuscitation stabilization (Off-label):
    • IV 5-10mcg/kg/min

Injection: 200mg/5mL

  • Premixed solution may be administered without dilution
  • Administered in large vein

Inotropic agent

It stimulates alpha and beta-1 adrenergic and dopaminergic receptors which produce inotropic, chronotropic, renal/splanchnic vasodilatory (at low doses) and pressor (at high doses) effects

WARNING:

Extravasation:

  • To prevent sloughing/necrosis in peripheral ischemic areas, promptly use syringe with fine hypodermic needle to liberally infiltrate area with 10-15mL saline solution containing 5-10mg phentolamine
  • Sympathetic blockade causes immediate conspicuous local hyperemic changes if area infiltrated within 12 hours
