- Simethicone: Anti-foaming agent that reduces surface tension, breaking up gas bubbles in the GI tract for easier expulsion
- Fennel Oil: Carminative, smooth muscle relaxant, helps relieve cramping and gas
- Dill Oil: Carminative and mild antimicrobial, improves digestion and alleviates gas
Combined, these agents relieve gas, bloating, and colic symptoms effectively, especially in infants.
- Generally well tolerated
- Rare:
- Mild GI upset, allergic reaction
- Excess fennel/dill oil in infants could (rarely) cause CNS symptoms if overdosed
- Hypersensitivity to simethicone or herbal oils
- Allergy to anethole (component in fennel)
- Use caution in preterm or low birth weight infants
- Simethicone: No known significant interactions
- Herbal oils: Minimal risk, but avoid concurrent use with other essential oil-containing products to reduce overdose risk
