- Hypertension:
- Initially PO 100mg BD
- Increased by 100mg BD every 2-3 days
- Hypertensive emergency:
- Initially IV 20mg over 2 minutes, then IV 40-80mg every 10min OR 1-2mg/min by continuous IV infusion
- Max 300mg
Injection: 5mg/mL
Tablet: 100mg; 200mg
Slow direct IV push administered over 2 minutes
Selective alpha and non-selective beta blocker
It selectively antagonizes alpha-1 adrenergic receptors and antagonizes beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic receptors
- Orthostatic hypotension (IV use)
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Paresthesia
- Vomiting
- Elevated BUN or Cr
- Fatigue
- Dyspepsia
- Rhinitis
- Headache
- Ejaculatory dysfunction
- Dyspnea
- Vertigo
- Hypersensitivity to class/components
- Severe bradycardia
- 2nd-3rd degree AV block
- Decompensated heart failure
- Cardiogenic shock
- Sick sinus syndrome (patients without pacemaker)
- Bronchial asthma
- Obstructive lung disease
- Avoid abrupt withdrawal
- Eliglustat
