- Prophylaxis of angina:
- Immediate release: 5-10mg BD initially. Can be increased to 10mg BD by day 2 or 3; maintenance: 20 mg BD
- Extended release: 30-60mg AM. Increase in 3 day intervals. Max 240mg/day
Tablet:
- 10mg

- To be taken on an empty stomach 30 minutes before meals or 1 hour after meals
Nitrates
It is converted to nitric oxide in the vascular smooth muscle leading to activation of cGMP and vasodilation.
It also relaxes smooth muscle through dilation of arterial and venous beds to reduce both preload and afterload, as well as myocardial oxygen demand.
