- Essential hypertension:
- 1.25mg OD in the morning
- May increase at 4 week intervals up to 5mg
- HF associated edema:
- 2.5 mg OD initially
- May increase to 5 mg OD
Tablet:
- 1.5mg
- Due to its diuretic effect, it is best taken in the morning
- Taken without regard to food
Thiazide diuretic
It inhibits resorption of sodium and chloride at the distal convoluted tubule therefore enhancing their excretion.
