• Used for wound cleansing, burns, cuts, abrasions, and pre-surgical skin disinfection
  • Apply 1–3 times daily as a solution, cream, or ointment
  • May be diluted for wound irrigation
  • Cetrimide: 0.5–1.0%
  • Chlorhexidine gluconate: 0.05–0.5%
  • Often available as aqueous or cream preparations
  • Clean the area before application
  • Apply directly to the skin or use diluted solution as irrigant
  • Avoid use in eyes, ears (with perforation), or deep body cavities
  • Cetrimide: A surfactant that disrupts bacterial membranes
  • Chlorhexidine: Broad-spectrum antiseptic that binds to microbial cell walls, causing leakage and death
  • Active against bacteria, some fungi, and viruses
  • Skin irritation, redness, burning, or itching
  • Rare: Contact dermatitis, hypersensitivity, or staining of skin/clothing
  • Known allergy to cetrimide, chlorhexidine, or related compounds
  • Avoid use in:
    • Eyes
    • Ears with perforated eardrum
    • Large open wounds or mucosa unless diluted
  • Inactivated by soaps, anionic detergents, and organic matter
  • Do not mix with other antiseptics unless confirmed compatible
