• Acetylcysteine (NAC):

    • Antioxidant support

Dose:

  • NAC (Oral): 600–1200 mg once or twice daily
  • NAC (IV): For acetaminophen overdose – specific hospital protocol

  • Taurine:

    • GI upset, nausea
    • Rarely: rash, hypotension (IV)

  • Taurine:
    • Usually well tolerated
    • Mild headache, dizziness (rare)
  • NAC: Hypersensitivity to NAC
  • Taurine: None significant in healthy individuals

Caution with asthma for NAC (may cause bronchospasm in rare cases)

  • NAC:

    • May enhance nitroglycerin effect (↑ risk of hypotension)
    • May interact with some chemotherapy agents
  • Taurine:
