• Allergic conditions:
    • Adults: 25mg nocte; increased to 25mg BD if necessary
    • 5-10 years: 10-25mg OD/BD
    • 2-5 years: 5-15mg OD/BD
    • IV/IM: 25mg; may be repeated after 2 hours. Switch to oral as soon as possible
  • Vertigo, motion sickness, nausea and vomiting:
    • Adults: 25mg nocte
    • 5-10 years: 10mg nocte
    • 2-5 years: 5mg nocte
  • Night sedation and insomnia:
    • Adults: 25mg nocte; increased to 50mg if necessary
    • 5-10 years: 20-25mg
    • 2-5 years: 15-20mg
  • Preoperative sedation:
    • Adults: 25-50mg 1-2 hours before surgery
    • 12-16 years:5-25mg

Tablet: 25mg

Suspension: 5mg/5ml

Injection: 50mg/2ml, 25mg/amp

  • Not to be used < 2years.
  • Due to its sedative effects, it is best dosed at night.
  • Do not operate heavy machinery or drive when taking medication.
  • Deep IM injection preferred mode of administration
  • Do NOT give SC or intra-arterial.

CAUTION:

Discontinue IV infusion immediately if patient complains of pain during injection.

IV administration can cause severe tissue injury such as burning, gangrene, or thrombophlebitis, necessitating fasciotomy, skin graft or amputation

Phenothiazine derivative with potent antihistaminic properties. It competes with H1 receptors to produce its antihistaminic effect. It is also an antimuscarinic with significant sedative and serotonin-antagonist properties. It has central anticholinergic effects on the vestibular apparatus and the CTZ in the midbrain thus helps with motion sickness.
