- Allergic rhinitis:
- Adults & children >12 years: 120mg OD
- Idiopathic chronic urticaria:
- Adults & children >12 years: 180mg OD
Children 6-11 years: 30mg OD
In severe renal failure: 60mg daily
Tablet: 120mg, 180mg
- Do not take with fruit juices as they may decrease the absorption of the drug.
- Not to be given to children <6 years.
- Do not take antacids containing aluminum and magnesium within 2 hours of taking this medication; they can decrease the absorption of fexofenadine.
H1-histamine receptor antagonist.
It competes for H1-receptor sites in target cells in the respiratory tract, blood vessels and GI tract. It is a major metabolite of terfenadine with potentially no cardio-toxic side effect.
