• Seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
  • Chronic urticaria (hives)
  • Allergic asthma (as adjunct therapy)
  • Relief of nasal congestion, sneezing, itching, and rhinorrhea

Typical Adult Dosage:

  • Desloratadine 5 mg + Montelukast 10 mg once daily

Pediatric Dosage (age-dependent):

  • Adjusted according to age and weight (commonly available in chewable or syrup form for children)
  • Desloratadine 5 mg + Montelukast 10 mg (Adults)
  • Pediatric combinations are often adjusted (e.g., Desloratadine 2.5 mg + Montelukast 4/5 mg)
  • Take orally once daily, preferably in the evening (especially for asthma/allergy control)
  • Can be taken with or without food
  • Consistency is important—take at the same time each day

Desloratadine:

  • A non-sedating, long-acting H1-antihistamine
  • Blocks histamine (H1) receptors to relieve allergic symptoms
  • Does not easily cross the blood-brain barrier (less drowsiness)

Montelukast:

  • A leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA)
  • Inhibits the effects of leukotrienes involved in allergic and inflammatory processes (e.g., bronchoconstriction, mucosal edema)

Desloratadine:

  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness (rare)

Montelukast:

  • Headache
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Neuropsychiatric effects: mood changes, agitation, anxiety, depression (rare but serious)
  • Hypersensitivity to either Desloratadine or Montelukast
  • Severe liver impairment (use caution with Montelukast)
  • Not for acute asthma attacks
  • Montelukast: Metabolized by CYP3A4 and 2C9—enzyme inducers (e.g., rifampin, phenytoin) may reduce its effect
  • Desloratadine: Fewer interactions; minimal CYP metabolism, but caution with other sedatives
  • Avoid combining with other antihistamines or leukotriene receptor antagonists
