• Monotherapy or combination therapy with metformin, a thiazolidinedione or insulin:

  • Combination therapy with a sulfonylurea:
    • PO 50mg OD
    • Maximum dose: 100mg/day.

Tablet:

  • 50mg
  • Taken without regard to food
  • Best taken in the morning

Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor

It inhibits the DPP-4 enzyme, which degrades incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP). By increasing incretin levels, vildagliptin enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion and reduces glucagon secretion, leading to better control of blood glucose levels.
