- Type 2 DM especially for patients inadequately controlled on diet, exercise, and monotherapy with either gliclazide or metformin:
- Initial dose: PO 4mg/ 500mg OD taken with the largest meal
- Max: 320mg/2000mg per day
Tablet:
- 40mg/500mg
- 80mg/500mg
- Take orally with meals to minimize GI side effects (metformin) and reduce the risk of hypoglycemia (gliclazide).
- Gliclazide (Sulfonylurea): It stimulates insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells, lowering blood glucose levels.
- Metformin (Biguanide): It lowers glucose production in the liver, improves insulin sensitivity and reduces glucose absorption from the intestines.
