• Management of Type II DM:
    • Initial dose: 2.5mg with breakfast.
    • Adjusted every 1 week according to patient response by 2.5mgupto 15mg daily.

Tablet: 5mg

Doses above 10mg given in 2 divided doses.

Best taken in the morning before breakfast.

Second generation sulfonylurea.

It works by binding to ATP-sensitive potassium channels and inhibiting them in pancreatic beta cells. This causes depolarization of the cell membrane and opening of the voltage-dependent calcium channels. There is increase in intracellular calcium in the pancreatic beta cells and consequent stimulation of insulin release.

  • GI disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, heartburn, anorexia, diarrhoea.
