• Multibacillary leprosy:
    • PO 100mg and clofazimine 50mg OD *12 months + rifampicin 600mg and clofazimine 300mg once a month
    • < 35kg: PO 50mg daily and reduced rifampicin as well
  • Paucibacillary leprosy:
    • PO 100mg OD and rifampicin 600mg once a month
    • Reduced dosages in low weight patients
  • Dermatitis herpetiformis:
    • PO 50mg OD
  • Treatment of mild to moderate Pneumocystis jirovecii (Pneumocystis carinii) pneumonia (in combination with trimethoprim)
    • PO  100 mg once daily

Tablet: 100mg

  • May be treated for longer periods if not responsive within the first 6 or 12 months

Sulfone

It competes with para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), inhibiting folic acid synthesis. It is bactericidal and bacteriostatic against Mycobacterium leprae
