• Moderate to severe pneumonia:
    • IV 2g TDS *7/7
  • Febrile neutropenia:
    • IV 2g TDS * 7/7 or until neutropenia resolves 
  • UTI:
    • Uncomplicated: IV 0.5-1g BD *7-10 days
    • Complicated: IV 2g BD *7-10 days
  • Uncomplicated skin & soft tissue infections:
    • IV 2g BD *10/7 
  • Intra-abdominal infections (in combination with metronidazole):
    • IV 2g BD *10/7
    • Children > 2 months:  50mg/kg/dose BD/TDS. Max 2g/dose

Injection:

  • 500mg
  • 1g
  • 2g
  • To be reconstituted with 50-100 mL of NS, D5W, D10W, LR, D5/LR or other compatible fluid
  • Stored at room temperature
  • IV infusion to be given over 30 minutes
  • May become darker after mixing with a diluent.

4th generation cephalosporin.

Bactericidal. It inhibits synthesis of bacterial cell wall. Best beta-lactam against Gram +ve and beta lactamase producing bacteria and for IM administration. It has poor capacity to cross blood-brain barrier and thus is not used for treatment of meningitis.
