- Dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation)
- Renal colic, biliary colic
- Spasmodic abdominal pain
- Postoperative or postpartum uterine cramps
- Typical Adult Dosage:
- 1 tablet 2–3 times daily
- Dosage may vary by formulation and severity of symptoms
- Drotaverine hydrochloride: 80 mg
- Mefenamic acid: 250 mg
- Take after meals with a full glass of water
- Do not exceed recommended dosage
- Avoid alcohol and other NSAIDs
- Drotaverine:
- Antispasmodic that inhibits phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE-4)
- Increases cAMP, causing smooth muscle relaxation (GI, uterine, biliary, urinary tracts)
- Mefenamic Acid:
- NSAID; inhibits COX enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis
- Provides analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects
- Nausea, vomiting, gastritis
- Dizziness, headache
- Abdominal discomfort, diarrhea or constipation
- Hypersensitivity reactions, especially with mefenamic acid
- Rare: GI bleeding or renal effects with long-term use
- Peptic ulcer disease, GI bleeding
- Renal or hepatic impairment
- Hypersensitivity to NSAIDs or drotaverine
- Asthma precipitated by NSAIDs
- Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin): ↑ bleeding risk
- Other NSAIDs: ↑ GI/renal side effects
- Antihypertensives: possible reduced efficacy
- Alcohol: ↑ GI irritation
