- Prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting:

- Rate of IV administration should be between 2-5 minutes and not less than 30 seconds.
Highly selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist.
Specific mode of action unknown. Chemotherapeutic agents and radiotherapy may cause release of 5HT3 in the small intestines initiating a vomiting reflex by activating vagal afferents via 5HT3 receptors. Ondansetron antagonizes these receptors blocking initiation of this reflex.
