• Abdominal cramps, spasmodic pain
  • Menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea)
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Renal or biliary colic

Typical adult dosage:

  • 1 tablet 2–3 times daily
  • Should not exceed paracetamol 4 g/day
  • Hyoscine butylbromide: 10 mg
  • Paracetamol (acetaminophen): 500 mg
  • Take after meals with water
  • Do not chew or crush tablet
  • Maintain adequate hydration

Avoid alcohol (due to paracetamol component)

Hyoscine butylbromide:

  • An antispasmodic and anticholinergic
  • Blocks muscarinic receptors in the GI tract → relaxes smooth muscle → relieves cramping

Paracetamol:

  • Analgesic & antipyretic
  • Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis in the CNS → reduces pain and fever
  • Dry mouth, dizziness, blurred vision (hyoscine)
  • Nausea, liver toxicity (paracetamol at high doses)
  • Constipation or urinary retention (less common)
  • Glaucoma, urinary retention, myasthenia gravis
  • Severe liver disease
  • Known allergy to hyoscine or paracetamol
  • CNS depressants (alcohol, sedatives): ↑ sedation
  • Enzyme-inducing drugs (e.g., rifampin, carbamazepine) may ↓ paracetamol efficacy
  • Other anticholinergics: additive effects
