• Gastrointestinal spasms

Typical dosage:

  • OP: 80 mg 2–3 times/day
  •  IV/IM: 40–80 mg, up to 3 times/day, for acute pain
  • PO: 80 mg
  • Ampoules:IV/IM 40 mg/2 mL or 80 mg/4 mL 
  • Take before meals for prevention of cramping
  • For acute spasms, injectable form is used in clinical settings
  • Swallow tablets whole with water
  • Class: Non-atropinic antispasmodic
  • Mechanism: Direct smooth muscle relaxant, particularly in the GI tract, biliary, and urinary tracts
  • Does not affect cholinergic receptors, hence fewer anticholinergic side effects
  • Usually well tolerated
  • Rare:
    • Nausea
    • Allergic reactions (rash, itching)
    • Dizziness
  • Known hypersensitivity to phloroglucinol
  • Severe hypotension (for injection)
  • No major interactions reported
  • Can be safely combined with paracetamol, NSAIDs, or antibiotics in pain management
