Typical Adult Dosage:
- 40 mg orally, 2–3 times/day, usually before meals
- Available in 40 mg tablets
- Take 15–30 minutes before meals
- Swallow whole with water
- Regular use is often required for chronic GI issues (e.g., IBS)
- Class: Quaternary ammonium antispasmodic
- Mechanism: Acts directly on GI smooth muscles to inhibit calcium influx
- Results in relaxation of intestinal smooth muscle, reducing spasms and discomfort
- Minimal systemic absorption → mostly local action in the gut
- Generally well tolerated
- Possible:
- Nausea
- Dry mouth
- Headache
- Rare: Constipation, skin rash
- Hypersensitivity to otilonium or similar compounds

- No major known interactions
