A nonionic surfactant used as a spermicide.

It acts by damaging the sperm cell membrane, causing an increased membrane permeability with subsequent loss of cell components and reduced motility and function.

  • Allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling
  • Toxic shock syndrome
  • Chills
  • Fever
  • Irritation, itching or burning of the sex organs that does not go away within a short period of time
  • Pain in bladder or lower abdomen
  • Pain on urination
  • Redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth or vagina
  • Thick, white or curd-like vaginal discharge
  • Trouble passing urine or change in the amount of urine
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Absence of vaginal sensation
  • During menses
  • History of toxic shock syndrome
  • Within 6 weeks after giving birth
