- Render the urine alkaline in conditions such as pyelitis, cystitis, urethritis, urolithiasis
- During treatment of urinary tract infections with antibiotics
- Acute or chronic metabolic acidosis in acute infections and dehydration
- Kidney stones
Dose:
- Adults: PO 30mL QID
- Children 6 – 12 years: PO 10-15mL TDS/QID
Suspension:
- 1.37g/5mL
- 1.53g/5mL
- To be diluted in water or milk after meals
- Adults may take it without dilution
Urinary alkaliser.
It metabolises to bicarbonate and increases the excretion of free bicarbonate ions, increasing the solubility of cysteine in the urine and ionises uric acid to soluble urate ion. This helps in increasing the urinary pH, thereby making the urine less acidic.
