• Allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial)
  • Chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives)

Typical Adult Dosage:

  • OD 20 mg 

Pediatric Use:

  • Children ≥6 years and ≥20 kg: 10 mg OD(oral solution or chewable tablets available)
  • PO: 20 mg
  • Oral solution/chewable tablets: Pediatric-friendly formulations (commonly 10 mg)
  • Take on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals) for optimal absorption
  • Do not take with fruit juice (apple, grapefruit, orange) as it may reduce bioavailability
  • Swallow with water
  • Class: Second-generation, non-sedating H1-antihistamine
  • Mechanism: Selectively blocks peripheral H1 receptors to inhibit histamine-mediated symptoms like sneezing, itching, runny nose, and hives
  • Onset of action: Within 1 hour
  • Duration: ≥24 hours
  • Headache
  • Drowsiness (rare)
  • Dizziness
  • Abdominal pain or GI upset
  • Fatigue

Note: Has a low incidence of sedation compared to other antihistamines

  • Hypersensitivity to bilastine or any of its components
  • Use caution in patients with renal impairment (especially if co-administered with P-glycoprotein inhibitors like ketoconazole, erythromycin)
  • Fruit juice: Reduces absorption
  • P-gp inhibitors (e.g., cyclosporine, ritonavir, ketoconazole): May increase bilastine plasma concentration
  • No major CYP450 enzyme interactions
