Typical Dosage:
- Infants: 5–10 drops, 3–4 times daily (or per label instructions)
- Children/Adults: As directed, usually 5–10 mL syrup or drops post meals
- Aniseed oil (Pimpinella anisum): ~0.005–0.01 mL/mL
- Dill oil (Anethum graveolens): ~0.005–0.01 mL/mL
- Peppermint oil (Mentha piperita): ~0.001–0.005 mL/mL
- Shake well before use
- Administer after feeds or meals
- Can be mixed with water or formula if needed
- Use calibrated dropper for infants
- Aniseed Oil: Antispasmodic, carminative; relieves flatulence and promotes digestion
- Dill Oil: Carminative, mildly antimicrobial; aids digestion and expels gas
- Peppermint Oil: Antispasmodic on smooth muscle, relieves GI cramps and nausea
The combination provides soothing action on the GI tract, reduces bloating and discomfort.
- Generally well tolerated in recommended doses
- Allergic reactions (skin rash, GI upset)
- Heartburn (from peppermint oil in some adults)
- High doses of essential oils may cause nausea, diarrhea, or CNS effects (especially in infants – use cautiously)
- Known hypersensitivity to any essential oil component
- G6PD deficiency (caution with menthol in high doses)
- Severe reflux or GERD (peppermint oil may worsen symptoms)
- Minimal in typical topical or low-dose oral formulations
- Peppermint oil may interfere with some CYP enzymes at high doses (rare in pediatric use)
