• Depression:
    • Initially PO 20mg
    • May be increased by 10mg/day weekly

  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder:
    • PO 40mg OD
    • Initially 20mg, increased by 10mg/day weekly
    • Max: 60mg/day
  • Panic disorder:
    • Initially PO 10mg OD
    • May be increased by 10mg weekly (target dose 40mg/day)
    • Max: 60mg/day
  • Social anxiety disorder:
    • PO 20mg OD
    • May be increased by 10mg/day weekly
  • Generalized anxiety disorder:
    • PO 20mg OD
    • Initially 10mg
    • May be increased by 10mg/day weekly
    • Max: 50mg/day
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder:
    • PO 20mg OD
    • Initially 10mg
    • May be increased by 10mg/day weekly
    • Max: 50mg/day
  • Pre-menstrual disphoric disorder:
    • CR: Initially PO 12.5mg OD
    • May increase at 1 week intervals
    • Max 25mg/day
  • Moderate-severe menopausal vasomotor symptoms:
    • PO 7.5mg OR CR: PO 12.5-25mg OD

Tablet: 20mg

  • To be taken with or without meals
  • Taking this medication with food may decrease nausea
  • Taken in the morning

It blocks the serotonin reuptake transporter (SERT) and thus increases the concentration of synaptic serotonin
