• Severe bacterial infections in cases of penicillin allergy or where penicillin is inappropriate:
    • Adults:
      • IM 600mg OD/BD
      • IV 600-1000mg BD/TDS. Max 8g/day
      • PO 500mg TDS/QID
  • >1 month old:
    • IV 10-20mg/kg/day divided BD/TDS
    • IM 10mg/kg OD/BD

Injection: 600mg

Capsule: 500mg

  • IV should be infused over 1 hour

Lincosamide

It suppresses protein synthesis by binding to 50S ribosome, which in turn affects the process of peptide initiation causing bacterial cell death

  • Inflammation of tongue/mouth/colon
  • Nausea & vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Itching in anus
  • Decreased blood cell counts
  • Swelling in the extremities
  • Skin rash
  • Hives
  • Vaginal inflammation
  • Jaundice
  • Abnormal liver function tests
  • Elevation of blood urea nitrogen, low output of urine and/or protein in urine
  • Hypersensitivity to class/components

WARNING:

  • Pseudomembranous colitis may range from severe to mild to life-threatening
  • Reserved for use in serious infections only
  • Not to be used in non-bacterial infections
  • Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile)-associated diarrhea (CDAD) can be present in diarrhea following antibiotic use
