- Severe deficiency of water soluble vitamin B in alcohol abuse to prevent Wernicke’s Encephalopathy:
- 2 to 3 pairs of 5 ml ampoules (1 pair = ampoule 1 + ampoule 2) diluted with 50ml-100ml infusion solution (normal saline/glucose 5%) and administered over 30 minutes every 8 hours.
- Psychiatric cases e.g. narcosis & toxicity from acute infections:
- 1 pair of 5 ml ampoules diluted with 50ml-100ml infusion solution (normal saline or glucose 5%) administered over 30 minutes BD *1/52.
- Hemodialysis:
- 1 pair of 5 ml ampoules diluted with 50 ml-100 ml infusion solution (normal saline or glucose 5%) administered over 30 minutes once every two weeks at the end of dialysis.
Each 5ml Ampoule No. 1:
- Thiamine HCl 250mg
- Pyridoxine HCl 50mg
- Riboflavin 4mg
Each 5ml Ampoule No. 2:
- Ascorbic acid 500mg
- Nicotinamide 160mg
- Glucose 1g
It can only be administered via an injection to the vein.
Vitamins B and C are important for a number of bodily functions including releasing energy from food and in the formation of healthy skin, bones and teeth.
